Gray’s look at Scottish poetry between the fourteenth and seventeenth centuries includes a study of Dunfermline poet Robert Henryson. She values him as approaching ‘the high seriousness of great poetry’ yet demonstrating ‘genial humour’ and as being ‘a greater makar than the others’ in her study. Ten of his poems are published in this book.
