At Candlemass 1674, the then magistrates of Burntisland having, as it is pretended, granted Bond for 2500 Merks, payable at the Lammas thereafter, in favour of the Gilt Box of the said town, which sum, they obliged them and there successors to repay to the said Masters and thier successors in office for the use of the Bond, and poor, decayed Seamen and their widows within the Burgh.
