This item, which is in fragile condition, contains legal papers from the 1830s brought before the Court of Session and the House of Lords concerning the Burntisland Whale Fishing Company, which had premises at the harbourside and wished to boil blubber etc. Burntisland residents who opposed this are named as William Trotter of Ballindean, Jane Davidson Broughton of Rosend, Alexander Campbell Beatson in Rosend [Rossend] Castle, John David Anderson, John Leven, Rev. Charles Watson, Christian Young, Christian Charters or Wemyss, Christian and Grace Ballantyne, Mrs Agatha Boog or Laughton, and Janet Jameson or Torrie.
