This item comprises legal papers in the dispute between 'William Cochran of Ochiltrie and Lady Mary Bruce his Lady' against Lieutentant Collonel [sic] John Erskine. The dispute concerned rights to the Estate of Kincardine, purchased by Erskine in 1700 'at a Roup [sale by auction] before the Lords'. Many interesting details are recorded, eg. in 1639 Sir George Bruce of Carnock did 'Mortifie and Dispone a Dwelling-House in Culross, and a yearly Annuity of 24 Bolls Oat-meall furth of the Lands of Sands, for the Use and Maintenance of six poor, decayed, aged Widow Women'.
