Culross case, Erskine and others : 1764-1765 / spine title

Court of Session (Scotland)1765
Books, Manuscripts
This item comprises legal papers in a dispute over the muir of Culross that began in 1719. The muir was sold or otherwise disposed of by the town to Charles Cochran [Cochrane] but there was disagreement over what rights others, including Erskine, had, especially with regard to 'servitudes of collecting and preserving water, and dams, and reservoirs in the muir of Culross'. There is interesting detail on the move towards enclosing land, and information on the locality, with dams named including Horn-moss, Kirkton, Sheep-land, Keir and Muir. Witness details are also given (eg. 'William Dryburgh, elder, weaver, burgess of Culross, aged 63').
