This is a bound copy of legal papers relating to the Cunningham/Cuninghame family, and specifically to the legitimacy of the children of 'John Cunningham, Esq.; Advocate [and one-time Provost of Inverkeithing], who is the eldest lawful son of the deceased John Cunningham, Esq; of Balbougie, writer to the Signet', in a struggle over the entailed estate of Balbougie in the parish of Inverkeithing. Doubt was cast over whether Provost Cunningham had married Agnes Hutchison, and there is mention of Inverkeithing kirk session records of her 'on the repenting-stool'. The papers include Cunningham family history details, witness depositions (eg that of 'Janet Tulloch, spouse of John Cock, baker in Inverkeithing, aged 48') etc. Some papers date back to 1790.
