This is a bound copy of legal papers relating to a wadset case over the lands of Powguild and Glenningston [Glenniston] in Auchterderran parish. Dalrymple held rights to the above-mentioned lands through the conveyance of James Wemyss of Wemyss (his brother-in-law) which he felt entitled him to be enrolled as a freeholder of the county of Fife (and hence to hold voting rights). Other freeholders including Henderson had 'refused to inroll [enrol] him' as a voter on the basis of his land tenure, leading to this case. NB Wadset was an early form of mortgage, and is fully debated and defined within these papers: the second paper includes copies of wadset-rights; there were 'proper' and 'improper' wadsets.
