Court of Session (Scotland)1811
Books, Manuscripts
This is a hardbound copy of legal papers involving James Harrowar of Inzievar, who was an Advocate. In the first paper, it is Harrowar who signed off on a case against Lawrie & Co, printers to the Grand Lodge of Freemasons (as well as of the Edinburgh Gazette). Subsequent papers were brought by Harrowar's Trustees (including James Hunt of Pittencrieff and Logie) after his death in April 1821: against James Graham for repayment of debt, against John Sibbald of Abden (of Kinghorn Easter) for same, and against Thomas and John Scotland to repay the bonds and obligations granted by Harrowar. Janet Wright pursued Harrowar's estate as being co-bound with Sibbald to pay her an annual bond of annuity (the duplicate copy of this has a Messenger at Arms summons attached, bearing James Hunt's name). There is also a Cognition and Sale paper listing in very full detail all the lands owned by Harrowar, as well as listing his creditors and his legacies for his children. The final paper attempts to have Sibbald's tenants pay rent to the Trustees: full listing of lands and tenants is included.
