Books, Manuscripts
Ledger - one of a series - with handwritten entries giving names of post office staff, wage paid, date of birth, date of appointment, date of Civil Service Certificate, date of any promotions, date and reasons for leaving (eg. 'resigned on marriage', 'dismissed', ‘on military service’, 'killed in action. War Bonus arrears claimed'). There is also information on 'charwomen', medical officers and persons licensed to sell stamps. Information relates to Dunfermline and West Fife post offices and sub-offices. While most of the information relates to the period 1914-1920, there are staff appointment dates dating back to the 19th century. This ledger is a useful resource for social and family history research, as well as research on World War One (WWI).
