Box containing individual editions of The Monthly Scrap Book from 1832, for the months of January - April, June, October and December. The January edition mentions the 'suspension of our "Gas Work" ("The Gasometer, or, Dunfermline Literary Magazine, for 1831")' whose contributors had been 'Messrs. Cockspur, Batwing, Argand, and Jet' and explains that the Scrap Books were designed to continue to provide 'elegant and useful reading'. Each Monthly Scrap Book begins with a poetry extract, Contents list and an animal or bird illustration; each ends with "Garden Work" for the month and a table of sunrise etc times. In between are poems, stories and news, including extracts and original works.
