Set of nine sermons by the Rev. John Laird of Cupar Free Church (1811-1896) with a introductory memorial sketch by his Son the Rev.David M.W.Laird, M.A., of Durris, Kincardineshire. Introductory sketch briefly details the Rev. John Laird's childhood, education and theological training and his career in the church and involvement in the Disruption in 1843. He became the minister of Cupar Free Church in 1853 and ministered there until his death. The sermons include various Old and New Testament themes and conclude with a lecture on the Disruption. The frontispiece is a black and white photographic plate of the Rev. John Laird by Mr Moffat of Edinburgh.
