This item comprises 15 single-sided typescript pages detailing the life and WWI experience of Second Lieutenant George Anderson McDonald from Cairneyhill. It was his father who donated the piece of ground for the Cairneyhill War Memorial. George McDonald's life story is illustrated by some 22 scanned photographs, postcards and documents, including his will. He served in the Scots Guards, was later transferred to the 10th Battalion of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, and died at the Somme in 1917, aged 19.
