Books, Manuscripts
This item is a bound copy of a document dated 4 February 1727. The document summarises a dispute concerning the Inverkeithing election of Michaelmas (29 September) 1726, and gives page references to papers not included here. George Preston younger of Valleyfield and others complained of Henry Cunninghame/Cunningham of Balquhan/Boquhan and others that the election had not been carried out properly and should be declared 'void and null'. Cunninghame countered with a similar complaint, and asking that his opponents be declared 'incapable to bear any Office... [and] to have forfeited, tint and amitted their Right of Burgess-ship, and Freedom of the said Burgh in all Time-coming'. Both sides were assoilzied or acquitted, and decisions given as to those whose right to vote had been questioned (eg. John Cant of Douloch/Duloch and John Primrose, son of the late Earl of Roseberry/Rosebery).
