The Ballad of Sir Patrick Spens : A narrative tapestry for Dunfermline Town

Cumming, Elizabeth1998
Books, Manuscripts
The "Ballad of Sir Patrick Spens", The artist and weaver Elizabeth Cumming has put together as she describes, 'some notes on the tapestry'. The ballad is bleak and haunting, the subject showing extreme loyalty and sacrifice to his King. The notes contain a detailed description on the artist's thoughts on how to construct and design the work, finally deciding on a panel construction in the same way as the poem is divided into stanzas, and working the design with reflection to the illuminated manuscripts of that era. She descibes the the work as more of a fantasy, a kind of medieval fairy-tale.
