Full and complete report of the soiree and presentation to Ex-Provost John Whitelaw, at the Music Hall, Dunfermline on Tuesday 8th December 1868. Mr Whitelaw received a "drawing-room time-piece, an epergne, and silver plate, to the value of £230, suscribed for by the inhabitants, and presented in appreciation of the numerous and valuable services which that gentleman has rendered the town". Ex-Provost Robertson presided on the occasion, and a full 9 letters of apology were read out, there were another 14 other letters of apology mentioned. A full account of all Ex-Provost Whitelaws accomplishments were read out on the night by various gentlemen. The musical part of the proceedings was creditably sustained by Miss Annie Kinnaird, Mr W. Locke and Mr F.W. Bridgman, pianist. The band of the First Fifeshire Rifle Volunteers was also present, and during the evening played a number of Scottish airs. The proceedings were brought to a conclusion by the Band playing the Queen's Anthem.
