Children and Films : A Study of Boys and Girls in the Cinema

Field, Mary1954
Books, Manuscripts
A study of the way in which children reacted to films shown to them between December 1951 and May 1952. This was produced for the Carnegie United Kingdom Trustees in response to anxiety over children seeing films. Traditionally, it had been felt that films were inherently bad and that children should be shielded from their influence. During the study, children were photographed using infra-red cameras whilst viewing films of various types. The results of the study found that films could be used for the profit and pleasure of young audiences.
