A Naturalists' Society and its work, written by Professor Geddes, is an article which was printed in The Scottish Geographical Magazine, for February and March 1903. This article is Professor Geddes's speech, on the night that the Dunfermline Naturalists Society was formed, in which he said that they hoped to emulate the Perthshire Society of Natural Science, and its Museum (which Professor Geddes thought to be the best Museum of its kind in the country). Professor Geddes asked the question, "How does nature determine Man, and how far? and, How far can Man redetermine Nature?" Also he commented on the geographical area on which Dunfermline is situated, between Perth and Edinburgh. "Until the very early 1900's, the Scottish population was, like that of Norway at present, one of the least urban, one of the most rustic, in civilised Europe". The Lake Survey is also mentioned on the last page of this booklet, and the benefits of this.
