Somerville, Robert
Books, Manuscripts
Notes by Robert Somerville, for a speech he gave on his retiral as Honorary Secretary of the Dunfermline Naturalists' Society. Thought to have been in the mid 1930's. In the speech he writes about founding the D.N.S., with the help of others: "In the preliminary meetings the advice and help of Professor Patrick Geddes was invaluable. It is well to remember that at that time he resided at Low Valleyfield". He goes on to compliment and praise all of the office-bearers over the past 30+ years, and he applauds the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust, who have helped with housing the collections that have been gathered over the years by the D.N.S. He mentions in particular the fossil (footprints) collection (presented by Henry Beasley), and the collection of butterflies and moths, by Henry Anderson.
