Held in cardboard cover : Imperial Chain is the only legal standard by which measurements are to be be made but as this law was not compulsatory, it was scarcely adopted in Scotland and it is "hoped that the information contained in these tables may be useful to give a clear and satisfactory state of the proportions which the Scot and Imperial Measures bear to each other, both as regards extent and value; and may therefore be conducive to the general aoption of the Imperial Standard."
