This legal document is a Memorial of the Provost, Magistrates and Councillors of the Burgh of Dunfermline, complaining that the Dunfermline and District Tramways Company were not complying with the General Orders which allowed the latter to compulsorily acquire land for the construction of tramways and road widenings. The area under dispute was a field near the Grange Road running from property owned by the Earl of Elgin to the southern boundary of the Gas Works. This area had been wrongly assigned by the tram company as belonging to the Earl of Elgin but had since 1905 been owned by Dunfermline Town Council. This error meant that no communication had been made with the Council.
