This novel is the story of a young railwayman at a small depot in Fife who falls in love with the daughter of a trade unionist and town councillor. Trade unionism, communism and the railways feature in the novel. The author, whose photograph is on the dust jacket, was born in Hill of Beath and living in Dunfermline at the time of the novel's publication.
