This biannual journal contains articles, documents and reviews of Scottish interest. Pages 154-162 of this volume contain a review of ‘Extracts from the Records of the Burgh of Edinburgh, 1665 to 1680: Extracts from the Burgh Records of Dunfermline in 16th and 17th Centuries’. George S Pryde reviews the work of D Wood on the Edinburgh records extracts and Andrew Shearer on the Dunfermline records extracts. Pryde writes that Shearer’s work follows on from that of Erskine Beveridge but that ‘it is impossible to congratulate Mr Shearer on the changes in method which he has seen fit to introduce’, and that he has ‘no confidence in the transcription’. The article then highlights some record extracts, eg. ‘Fish or yarn should not be washed in the well or the burn’.
