Hospital of St Catherine

Webster, James Moir, Rev, 1875-19571950
Books, Manuscripts
This booklet examines what is known about St Catherine's Hospital, or chapel, or almshouse, in Dunfermline. The writer references the Royal Commission, the Registrum and other sources. He indicates that the building may have existed by 1227 and cites large-scale repairs in about 1420. There is also information on St Catherine's Wynd regarding properties, tenants and the road-widening that took place in c1910 after the properties had been demolished. The front and back covers feature copies of Adam Westwood watercolours: the one on the front has 'the ruins of St Catherine's Hospital, Pittencrieff Glen' while the watercolour on the back shows 'the arched doorway of St Catherine's Hospital, Kirkgate'.
