Queens' Play is the second novel in Dorothy Dunnett's six-volume series about the life and times of Francis Crawford of Lymond. Menaced by England and torn by internal discord, Scotland in 1550 clings to a single hope of survival - an alliance with France to be sealed by the betrothal of the seven year old Mary Queen of Scots to the Dauphin. Dorothy Dunnett was born in Dunfermline and is also the author of several contemporary crime novels written under her maiden name , Dorothy Halliday.
