The Elgin Marbles Lord Bruce's talk

Books, Manuscripts
A newspaper cutting about a talk given by Lord Bruce of Broomhall, son of the Earl of Elgin to the Canmore Club, Glenrothes, the men's fellowship group of St. Margaret's Parish Church. Lord Bruce spoke about the Elgin Marbles, that priceless collection Greek sculpture from the Acropolis at Athens which is now a national collection and is housed in the British Museum, London. The collection was made by an ancestor of the speaker, Thomas Lord Elgin when he was Minister Plenipotentiary and Ambassador Extraordinary to the Imperial Ottoman Court in 1799-1803 when the vast and powerful Turkish empire included dominion over the ancient lands of Greece.
