St Margaret established a priory in the 11th century that would grow to be Dunfermline Abbey David I and Robert the Bruce were responsible for much of what we see today, and both were buried here, alongside Margaret and Malcolm, The Palace served as a guesthouse for the royal family throughout the Middle Ages, and after the reformation became palace for Queen Anna, wife of James VI. In 1600, she gave birth to Charles I here, the last monarch born of Scottish soil.
