Memoirs of the court of King Charles the first : in two volumes, Vol. I

Aikin, Lucy1833
Books, Manuscripts
Volume one covers the period from Charles Stuarts birth in Dunfermline in 1600 to 1638, a year which saw the beginning of unrest in Scotland after Charles imposed a new bible. This was seen as an attempt to Anglicise the Scottish church. Charles believed in the divine right of Kings and his imposition of his absolute rule would lead to the Civil War and ultimately his downfall.
