Foreword by This book covers the century after the Reformation in Scotland which was a time of great turmoil. Although the careers and lives of the principal statesmen, lawyers and ministers are well known and documented, the lives of prominent women of the time have been almost entirely ignored. Their identities and aspects of their lives have now been discovered via the records of the special seats constructed for them in the church of St Giles in Edinburgh which became a cathedral in 1633. These account books are preserved in the Edinburgh City Archives. and are an invaluable historic resource.
