This item consists of 34 letters sent between Walter Bowman and the following individuals: his brother Thomas Bowman, his brother-in-law George Melvil, Dr James A. Bethune, John Smyth, William Gregory, Charles Gregory, D.A. Bayers, Arthur Balfour and John Gibson in relation to his late father's estate of Logie. As the eldest son, Walter Bowman had inherited the estate but resided in France in Bourges -in- Berry. The letters range from 24 March 1729 until 3 January 1733. The letters appear to have been collated as a document due to a legal dispute between Mr Bowman and the trustees of his father's estate and heard before the Lords of Session. The document was printed for this reason in July 1737 according to the title, but the later date of 'Nov. 1 1738' appears at the top right of the title page. In a letter from Walter Bowman to Arthur Balfour dated 29 October 1731, Walter states his grievance against the trustees appointed by his father ' They could not agree, because it seems each Party wanted to have the Property of Cheating me...'
