The Courier & Advertiser dated Friday 12 March 1993 featuring Captain Tadeusz (Teddy) from Lundin Links and Major George Bogacki from Markinch. Shortly after the outbreak of war Polish units were stationed in Fife the best known was the 1st Polish Independent Parachute brigade which went on to take part in the famous battle of Arnhem in Holland depicted in the film, 'A Bridge Too Far'. The Brigade was formed by General S. Sosabowski in 1941 in Fife and, in mid-1944 it had a total of 266 officers and 2300 other ranks.
Primary Parachute training took place at the Monkey Grove in Largo House estate.
Lady Victoria Wemyss instigated the making of a banner stating "We, the women of Fife have prepared this banner adorned by the Polish eagle, the Scottish thistle, the image of St Michael, the archangel, and the arms of the Kingdom of Fife.
